this world is for the frat bros

The New American Theatre (Black Box)
"She thinks about having sex in a UFO. She thinks about getting pregnant inside a UFO. She thinks about giving birth to a green blob. She thinks about wiping the afterbirth off the blob’s body. And it gets stuck to her fingers.
She tries to think about sex feeling good. She tries to not think about sex at all. Her brain is all blocked up." |
Younger sister Christine just discovered an alien near the skatepark across from her house and totally can not tell anyone! Older sister Aimee is preoccupied counting down the days until the loss of her virginity while simultaneously stuck in a deep blue sea of beer-chugging, pimple-faced weirdos. Both sisters are finding, however, that whatever sexual appetite their tiny teenage hearts are yearning for is cosmic, insatiable, and definitely intergalactic.

It’s a question we’ve all asked ourselves at some point, right? Well the short answer is, they’re all confusing and mysterious and impossible to understand. It’s this mystery of existence that pulls at everything in this world is for the frat bros with the strength and gravity of a black hole.
This show is approaching these heavy topics with a focus on feeling — how it feels in the moment to have your very sense of self evolving/eroding/exploding/melting/getting set on fire. The structure of this show is like several Russian dolls orbiting each other in a skate rink — the guiding force here is the journey — a winding road of self discovery that never seems like it’s going anywhere until you arrive. this world is for the frat bros knows how to talk about all these notions of identity and puberty because it is so, so, so authentic in every word, every pause, every dance number. It takes the most private and confused moments of our pasts and explodes them into reality. This show’s title also points to the fact that this is a story about today, about our modern society and the people we allow to inherit their adolescence and the people who have to fight for it. So thank you for joining us today. Enjoy the show, be young again for a while, and remember what it’s like to believe in a bigger world. - Ryan Stevens, Dramaturg help us build our world!Because we are an independent project and entirely not-for-profit, we rely on community donations. We want to give our ensemble and audience a performance produced to its fullest but in order to do that, we need you. We are focused on the experience over profit, making our tickets free of charge, meaning we can not rely on ticket sales to fund our show. All contributions to this campaign go directly to our venue, sets, costumes, lights, sound, props, printing, and marketing.
There is no such thing as a small donation! A $5 donation pays entirely for a new prop or costume piece. A $12 donation covers an online advertisement on the Fringe website . A $40 donation covers an hour of tech in our space. A $100 donation covers our entire props budget. Even a $1 donation covers a clementine (which is a super important element to our play)! more about the playAn intergalactic tale about two sisters exploring the nebulous and liminal space of female adolescence. Through aliens, dream sex, and female sexuality under the limits of a culture fueled by passive masculinity, our ensemble is excited to create impossible theatre outside of our educational environment. With a team of all-student producers, designers, and performers, our female-led project gives space to the unspokeness of being a teenager, while we are fresh out of our teens.

about our productionthis world is for the frat bros was initially developed at the UCLA School of Theatre and is continuing its development with the Hollywood Fringe. Our goal is to create an accessible theatre environment (admission is entirely free) so as to create as much visibility as possible to the story, our team, and our audience.
this world is for the frat bros is a super special play to all of us. It’s everything we want theatre to be: magical, unapologetic, androgynous, seemingly impossible, and a space for women to take up. this world is for the frat bros is our manifesto. get to know usWe are an ensemble of UCLA theater students (and recent alumni), ranging in age from 18 to 28. Led by a female playwright, director, and team of all female producers, we are even more excited to vocalize the nebulous and liminal space of female adolescence.
